Spring Grove Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center Names Dr. Richard D. Berardi as Medical Director

Respected Physician Joins New Providence, N.J., Skilled Nursing Facility

NEW PROVIDENCE, N.J., July 9, 2020 – Spring Grove Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center in New Providence has named Dr. Richard D. Berardi, DO, FACP, FACOI, CCHP, as its new medical director. The 106-bed skilled nursing facility, which is in the midst of a $3 million renovation and specialty programming enhancement, provides post-hospital care, short-term rehab and long-term residential care.

A respected physician, Dr. Berardi is board certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine, the National Board of Physicians and Surgeons, and the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners. He is a member of the Summit Medical Group in Berkeley Heights, N.J., and currently serves as vice president of the Board of Health in the City of Summit, N.J.

“Spring Grove is thrilled to welcome Dr. Berardi as its new medical director,” said Jennifer Hertzog, vice president of marketing and business development – MidAtlantic at Marquis Health Services, which provides nursing home consulting services for the facility. “Dr. Berardi is highly regarded throughout the New York/New Jersey area for his medical expertise and compassionate manner. He also possesses 20-plus years of experience as a medical practice director, specializing in program management, quality assurance, staff development and executive leadership.”

Previously, Dr. Berardi served as medical director with Corizon Health, Passaic County Sheriff’s Department in Paterson. In addition, he was the owner and physician of several practices in Brooklyn and in Queens. His numerous professional accolades include “America’s Top Physicians in Osteopathic Medicine,” “NJ Top Docs in Internal Medicine” and Marquis’ “Who’s Who in Medicine.”

Located at 144 Gales Drive, Spring Grove Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center was recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of the “2019-’20 Best Nursing Homes for Short-Term Rehabilitation.” The recognition from this global leader in quality rankings punctuates the positive changes taking place at the facility.

Marquis Health Services is spearheading Spring Grove’s multi-million-dollar renovation, creating a modern, home-like environment for patients and staff. Physical improvements include a full-scale retrofit of the dedicated subacute unit, expansion of a state-of-the-art rehab therapy gym and upgrades throughout the long-term care unit. Spring Grove also has incorporated Marquis’ hospitality-focused Guest Services program, offering concierge-style support and personal services. Together, Spring Grove and Marquis are developing the facility’s new specialized programming in partnership with the region’s leading healthcare providers. Programs include a chronic kidney disease management program and physiatry-driven rehabilitation services.

Dr. Berardi is a Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Internists, a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and a Certified Correctional Health Professional. He earned his D.O. from the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine, graduating with honors, and he completed his residencies at Overlook Medical Center in Summit and Mountainside Medical Center in Montclair. He was also an affiliate physician, division of clinical practice, at Columbia University.
